UFC 98: Hughes vs Serra

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

UFC 98 is coming up Saturday May 23. There undoubtedly will be at least two great fights. Lyoto Machida is fighting Rashad Evans, and the other great bout will be between Matt Hughes and Matt Serra. I found these two videos on Bloody Elbow.   The first is Matt Serra talking about how he doesn’t like Matt Hughes, and how cocky Hughes is.  The second is the opposite, with Hughes talking about Serra.

Now I don’t know either guy, but it is interesting how Serra likes to talk about how Hughes is so arrogant and puts himself above everyone else, and Hughes appears perplexed as to why Serra dislikes him so much.   That being said, both talk like this is a high school grudge match, and they both are ready to beat the other like a red headed step child.  Any time you get two guys who don’t like each other ready to duke it out, and they both have wicked skills, your in for a good fight.

My first Video-O Soto Gari

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

I just posted a YouTube video that I made with my brother.  The video is of O Soto Gari, a Judo throw.  I didn’t notice at the time I made it that my brother’s kids were in the background talking and asking him questions.  I thought it was funny so I left it in.  Also, after you watch the video, go check you the next video which is highlights of Judo throws in competition.  It’s pretty good and give a good demostration of how Judo can be used (at least in competition).

“How Not to Fight” by Scott “Lionheart” Blevins

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

I just saw on MMALinker three videos about Scott “Lionheart” Blevins.  These videos should be the beginning of “How not to Fight” by Scott “Lionheart” Blevins.  This guy is great, well, at covering his head.  Take a look at this:

I like how Blevins comes out at the beginning of the fight, puts his hand up to shake with his opponent, Zach Jenkins, then tries to sucker punch him.  I tend not to get down on fighters that are willing to get into the ring (octagon, cage, whatever…) and throw down with someone, but who is this guy?  I can’t believe he even gets fights.  But wait, if he is willing to take a beating so that someone can add a notch to their belt, more power to him.  There are two other good ones to watch on MMALinker

Check out this video from MySpace:

Look at the chain he is wearing around his neck.  If Rampage at 205 gets to wear the full size chain around his neck, is that the size of chain you get when you weigh a buck and a quarter.  I think he cut that off the chandelier in his kitchen.

To end it all, you have to check out the interview Cagepotato did with “Lionheart.”

Keep covering that head Lionheart.

Koscheck Stoppage

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

I keep seeing stuff on different blogs like MMABlips, Bloody Elbow, and Cagepotato about the Josh Koscheck Paulo Thiago stoppage due to knockout.  Evidently Koscheck is upset that the Ref, Steve Mazzagatti, stopped the fight because he was not knocked out, and he wanted the time to prove that he could have gotten back in control of himself.  Cagepotato has the best article about this: The Only Rule You’ll Ever Need to Determine Whether a Fight Was Stopped Too Early.

It’s hard to find good video about this fight (I suspect because the UFC holds the video close to the vest), but there is a small snippet on cagepotato showing the knockout.  I have to admit that when Koscheck goes down it looks like he is getting ready to stave off an attack, but when Mazzagatti stops the fight, and pulls on his arm, Koscheck does look like he is in la la land.   I am going to have to agree with cagepotato that Koscheck was out when Mazzagatti stopped the fight.  Have a look at the snippet on cagepotato here.

You can see Koschecks response to the stoppage here.

Judo Begins

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

I started Judo at the Camdenton Judo Club last week.  It feels good to get back into it.

If you read my about page, you will see that I have been into martial arts for about 10 years.  I have noticed since being back into it (for about 3 practices) many things are coming back quickly.  I have also noticed that the workouts are harder than I remember.

I found on YouTube a video of some judo moves.  Check this out:

Lose It!

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

I am a Mac guy.  I have a Macintosh computer, and an iPhone.  Apple makes the best products out there.

A couple of days ago I got message from Apple about their Applications Store pick of the week, called Lose ItLose It is a program made by Fit Now, and allows the user to create a calorie budget, and keep track of their weightloss goals.

So I have been using it for a couple of days, and although I don’t totally have it down yet, it looks like it is a pretty good program.  It has a whole bunch of different foods in their database and you can customize the different types of foods, and recipes that you eat.  You can also add different types of exercises to the program, put in the calories burned during the different exercises, and it then takes your food intake and your exercise amount to come up with a total caloric budget.

It appears the key to the program is to get it set up over a period of time with the types of exercises you do, along with the foods you eat.  For example, Judo was not on the list of exercises, I added it to my list, went onto the internet and found a website that had estimates of calories burned for 10 minutes of Judo done.  I inputed that information, and then when I go to Judo, I can have a pretty good estimate of the amount of calories I burned during a 90 minute session.   It looks like it will be a pretty functional program for those that need to lose, maintain, or gain weight based on the desired goal.

In order to view Lose It you can download iTunes here, or you can visit the Lose It website here.
