In a great fight between “Sugar” Rashad Evans and Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida, Machida was able to again win both rounds of the fight, and take the belt from Evans, who was defending it for the first time. Machida was on his game tonight. He is definitely showing the Karate (at least Shotokan) is nothing to sneeze at. Machida dominated both rounds. Round one was basically slow for the first half, Machida throwing a couple of really solid kicks to the body of Evans, but when Machida decided that he had found his opening, get out of the way, cause he was like a raging bull going through Evans. He would strike Evans in the face with viciously fast blows, and it seemed like he had “The Force” when Evans would punch or kick, because Machida would just move out of the way, and continue his domination.

Round two proved to be the greatest part of the fight. Machida saw his opening, and when he struck he rattled Evans, knocked him down, and unlike many fighters who throw and couple more punches, and their opponent is able to back off and recover, Machida kept coming. He saw the opening and kept pushing, finally landing several punishing blows, one of which caught Evans in the jaw with his mouth open: Lights Out!

Machida is beginning to appear to be like one of these guys that is invincible. His fighting stance is very strange, he does not lean forward at all like most fighters, but almost leans back, making it harder to judge the distance and get in on him. He is also very fast. His head movement, and his striking with both his fists and feet are lighting fast. It’s as though he knows what his opponent is going to do, and is ready to react before they are able to do it. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has said that Machida is a boring fighter, but tonight he proved to be very exciting, and he is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

UFC 98 Promo Video

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

I found this 10 minute promo video for UFC 98. The fight between Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans is going to be a great matchup. Both undefeated fighters, Evans defending his belt, Lyoto wanting the belt so bad he can taste it like his own urine. Although it is going to be a great fight, the one to watch is Hughes vs Serra. This shows a little of the bad blood. The entire promo on Spike which was shown tonight, really shows the bad blood between the two. This weekend’s UFC is going to be a great one!

Lyoto Machida

Monday, May 18th, 2009

As many may know, Lyoto Machida was trained in Bushido Karate by his father, a native of Japan, who migrated to Brazil as a young man. Lyoto was raised in a dojo, and here is a video showing a short history of his father, and Lyoto’s motivation for UFC 98, and martial arts. This is a video I found on Fight Ticker:

UFC 98 Preview

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Here is a video I found on YouTube with a preview of UFC 98, Rashad Evans vs Lyoto Machida. The fight is May 23 in Las Vegas. It is going to be a great fight, and my money is on “The Dragon.” It’s not that I don’t think that Evans is a good fighter, of course he is, but I think Machida has got a strange style in the MMA world, and that will translate to Evans having trouble in the cage because of his odd style.

Lyoto Machida Highlights Video

Friday, May 8th, 2009

I found this highlight reel of Lyoto Machida and his fights on Cage Potato. I think one of the reasons that Machida is so successful, is that his fighting style is so different than many of the other MMA fighters that step into the ring.  He is a Karate Fighter, but as you look at this video which shows some of his training, you see that he trains other aspects too, specifically, throws and groundwork.  The video is definitely worth watching.

I want to see some “black on black crime”

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

ufc96Quinton Rampage Jackson and Keith “The Dean of Mean” Jardine fought in UFC 96, with Rampage coming out on top.  Although before the fight, my money was on Rampage, Jardine fought a great fight.  His odd fighting style, with his aggressiveness allowed to him to take (in my opinion) the first round.  Rampage was just able to be aggressive enough to keep the judges on his side for the second and third round.  Right at the end of the third round Rampage had some solid blows that knocked Jardine down and he was able to take the third round.

The Jackson Jardine fight determined who would go up against Rashad Evans for the Light Heavyweight belt.  Had Jardine won the fight, Evans would have fought Lyoto “the Dragon” Machida.  Due the the win, Rampage and Evans will fight at UFC 98, May 23 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

At the end of the fight, Jackson told an excited crowd, “I want my belt back,” which resulted in a face off between Evans and Jackson.  During the stare down, Evans and Jackson were talking trash for really quite a long time, and Jackson ended the war of words by taking the microphone from Joe Rogan and saying:  “your gonna see some black on black crime.”  He then threw the microphone, and left the ring.  Well Rampage, I wanna see that “black on black crime,” and my money is in your corner.  Have a look at the video here:

UFC 94

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

UFC 94 is coming up on January 31 with two great fights.  Everyone seems to be looking at George St. Pierre and BJ Penn as the fight of the night, but the light heavyweight fight between Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva is the one to watch.  Both fighters are undefeated, and have different styles of combat.

Machida is a Karate fighter, and according to Joe Rogan in the previews Machida is considered an “awkward fighter.” Machida is a great fighter and has fought and beat some of the big names in MMA. Here is a career highlight video of Machida:

Silva, is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter which is the style which has dominated in MMA.  Check his highlights video out:

These guys are both looking to move up the ladder, and are looking to get their shot at the title fight.  This is the fight to watch.
